Maulana - SJMMJ Leicester

The Fazil Maulana will serve as the religious and spiritual guide for the Muslim Shia Jafri community at SJMMJ Leicester.

Role Overview

Ensuring that all religious, educational, and community affairs align with the teachings of Shia Jafri Mashayakhi. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the Maulana will play a key role in fostering spiritual growth, community cohesion, and interfaith relations.

Key Responsibilities

Religious and Educational Duties
  • Deliver engaging sermons, classes, and lessons on Islamic teachings to enhance religious knowledge and spiritual development. Specifically during the month of Muharram.
  • Provide guidance on Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Aqeedah, Hadith, and Sunnah to the community.
  • Lead daily, Friday (Jumu'ah), and Eid prayers, ensuring adherence to Shia Jafri Mashayakhi principles.
  • Offer Islamic counselling to individuals and families, addressing spiritual, personal, and social matters.
  • Conduct funeral rites (Janazah), providing necessary religious and emotional support.
  • Organize and implement holistic educational and extracurricular programs for all age groups in collaboration with relevant committees.
Community Engagement and Interfaith Relations
  • Participate in local community activities, fostering positive interfaith, intra-faith, and public relations for Islam and Muslims.
  • Promote unity and inclusivity, ensuring that all community members feel valued regardless of school of thought, gender, race, nationality, or socio-economic background.
  • Lead by example in preventing discrimination and advocating for social harmony.
  • Regularly consult with the Board of Trustees on religious matters, community concerns, and mosque activities.
Support and Advisory Services
  • Conduct regular consultation sessions (surgeries) for community members seeking religious guidance.
  • Provide pastoral support to individuals and families, particularly youth and those facing personal challenges.
  • Offer mediation and conflict resolution services, ensuring fair and just resolutions within the community.
Administrative and Compliance Duties
  • Adhere to all charity policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, supporting the Board of Trustees and assisting with other reasonable duties as required.
  • Stay informed on current affairs and socio-economic issues, ensuring relevance in community guidance and engagement.
  • Utilise IT and digital media to communicate effectively with the community and deliver online religious content where necessary.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements
  • Follower of Fiqh Jafari with deep understanding and adherence to Shia Jafri Mashayakhi teachings.
  • Successful completion of Aalim course
  • Compulsory a Fazil graduate
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in religious leadership, Islamic teaching, and community service.
  • Fluency in Gujarati, English, Urdu, and Arabic.
  • Extensive knowledge of Islamic Fiqh, Aqeedah, Hadith, and Sunnah with the ability to provide authentic and contextual religious guidance.
  • Strong understanding of other major global religions, supporting effective interfaith dialogue.
  • Demonstrated experience in Islamic family and youth counselling, providing compassionate and effective support.
  • Skilled in conflict prevention and resolution, offering fair and just mediation.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and community-driven personality with a passion for working with diverse groups.
  • Experience in public speaking, teaching, and delivering Islamic lectures in a clear, engaging, and motivational manner.
  • Strong IT and digital media skills, ensuring effective community outreach through modern platforms.
